The Arrival

They came from the east, and they had one thing on their mind. A caravan of camels loaded down with supplies and a few precious gifts, jangling on the sides. On a few of the camels rode some very nicely dressed men. From the first view, it could be seen that these were high men of rank. It was night and the Jerusalem streets were silent. There was no haggling and barganing going on in the market place, or people conversing. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of camel's hoof prints on the dusty streets. However to each person they came in contact with they asked the same question, and received the same answer: silence and disbelief. The people were "troubled by what they had to say". The Bible says:

"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him." Matthew 2:1-3

Let's stop here. Why was Jerusalem troubled about this? This is good news! Yet, I wonder if it is possible to get so caught up in the day to day hustle and bustle that we almost don't want Jesus to come, because He might interrupt everything that we are doing. How sad! All Jerusalem was troubled with Herod, of the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, the King of Israel. He came to save them, and they were troubled. Are we troubled as well, and if we are, why? Let us examine ourselves. Let us talk to Him, and tell Him what is going on in our lives. Let us welcome Him into our hearts this Christmas season. Let us not turn Him away, like He was so long ago. Let us allow our so-called plans to be interrupted, and follow Him like the wise men of old. They too could have had the same attitude as those around them, but, they instead were seeking for Jesus. Let us seek for Him too so that we are not "interrupted" by Him when He comes the second time. Jesus says in Luke 12:37

"Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them."
