Behind the scenes in the book of Daniel is a war between two forces. One a rebel force with a mission to destroy humanity, and one a heavenly one with a desire to save humanity. You won't want to miss this exciting study over the book of Daniel, the second part in the series on the Book of Daniel.

Conflict seems inevitable. In fact conflict is one of the central themes in Scripture, as we saw in Lesson Two. The Theme of the book of Daniel as demonstrated in the events of ancient Babylon, is this same cosmic struggle between the God of heaven and the power of evil. The book of Daniel begins with Nebuchadnezzar’s seeming defeat of the true God, but ends with a tremendous victory for the God of heaven. Nebuchadnezzar is shown again and again that God is still in control of human events. Remember that the focal point of the book of Daniel is the time of the end. Therefore, the events, stories and conflicts in the book of Daniel are to have an impact on us who are living in these last days. There are two issues over which controversy arises in the book of Daniel. These are the issues of worship and obedience. We will see them illustrated very clearly in the historical portions of Daniel. These same issues will reappear in the prophetic section of Daniel indicating they are to be major issues in the final conflict

White the second chapter of Daniel is part of the historical section of the book, nevertheless it contains one of the most amazing prophecies. The prophecy found in this chapter is the foundation upon which all the other prophecies in Daniel are built.

In every chapter of Daniel thus far we have seen the great controversy theme illustrated. In chapter 1 the issue in the controversy was obedience to God versus obedience to man. In Chapter 2 we are shown that God will ultimately triumph in the great controversy. In Chapter 3, we are introduced to the other main issue in the book of Daniel over which there is conflict, the issue of worship.

God patiently works with people. His longsuffering and patience is graphically illustrated in the book of Daniel through His attempts to reach Nebuchadnezzar with he gospel. Repeatedly Nebuchadnezzar appears to make strides in the right direction, but then relapses. Finally, in Chapter 4, God is forced to take drastic steps. As a result, it seems that Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges the true God.

In Daniel 3 the Bible says that the king endeavored to force the three Hebrews to false worship by insisting that they bow to his golden image. Nebuchadnezzar was unsuccessful in coercing them to false worship. In Daniel 6 there is an attempt to prohibit true worship. In the fiery furnace episode of Daniel 3 they could still have worshiped the true God, but in Daniel 6 there is a prohibition against worshiping the true God. Likewise, in the last days the book of Revelation reveals that God's people will first be enticed to worship God falsely, and finally will be prohibited from worshiping God truly. God's people will not yield on either point. They will be as faithful as the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace and as Daniel in the lion's den. The reason for their steadfast faithfulness will be the same as it was for Daniel and his friends- they will have developed a strong personal relationship with their Lord. A relationship with God is the most important thing we can have as we enter the final scenes of earth's history.
